Vintage Racecar’s European team kick off the 2018 racing season with their annual presence at the 16th edition of Race Retro, Stoneleigh Park, on the last weekend of February (23-25). The team always likes to bring a significant racing car to display over the weekend, and this year is no exception. Playing a part in the racing lives of Chris Amon, Richard Attwood, Jo Bonnier, Frank Gardner, Paul Hawkins and Tony Maggs, and run by the Midland Racing Partnership racing team for the 1965 and 1966 seasons, the immaculately turned out F2 Lola T60 (above) will be joined on the stand by period mechanic and present owner Roger Fowler, who’ll be happy to answer any questions enthusiasts may have. Of course, the car is profiled in the February 2018 edition of Vintage Racecar.
The usual warm welcome awaits all visitors, but especially our loyal band of subscribers. This year VR will have a daily free prize draw for all visitors to the stand to take part — the prize is a pair of tickets to the Donington Historic Festival, held over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend. We will have additional special offers for our subscribers too.
“Race Retro means a great deal to Vintage Racecar, it’s an event we have supported from day one,” enthused VR’s European Editor, Mike Jiggle. “The show has and continues to grow in popularity and stature year on year and we’re delighted to be back once again. As a subscription-only magazine, it’s an ideal opportunity for the wider motor racing community to get to know our publication, and for us to show them what we’re all about — most are surprised what we have to offer.”
As for the show itself, Race Retro’s organizers are pleased to announce that triple British Touring Car Champion Matt Neal will make his debut at Race Retro. Starting in Motocross, Matt moved into cars in 1988, driving in the Ford Fiesta XR2i category. He was the British Group N Champion in 1990 and 1991, before making his BTCC debut with Pyramid Motorsport at Silverstone in a BMW M3. Being a record six-time BTCC Independents Champion, Neal will enlighten enthusiasts with his career highlights and driving experiences on the Motor Sport Live Stage on Saturday February 24.
