The oldest race in the world, Italy’s Targa Florio, celebrates its 100th edition this year with no fewer than four motor sports competitions held May 5-8 in what is being called “the week of historical Italian motor sports.” The four events are the Targa Forio Classic, Targa Florio Historic Speed, Targa Florio Rally and Targa Florio Historic Rally,
The Automobile Club of Palermo, together with the Automobile Club of Italy, has come up with a program packed with events starting with the two rallies that, in recent years, have replaced what was once a speed race. One, the Targa Florio Rally, is the third date on the calendar of the Italian Rally Championship for the Asfalto Rally Trophy and Regional Championship, and the Targa Florio Historic Rally is Round Three of the Italian Historical Car Rally Championship.
Scrutineering will be held on May 5, and the “departure village” will be opened in Palermo with celebrations taking place in the evening. The first cars will leave from the center of Palermo at 9 a.m. on May 6, heading for Cefalu before returning on the Circuito delle Madonie. The second stage on May 7 will leave from Palermo at 8 a.m. headed for Agrigento and the Valley of the Temples before returning to Palermo in the afternoon. The third and last stage will commence at 9 a.m. on Sunday May 9, with cars leaving from Floriopoli for Cerda.
