  1. Full face helmets in pre-1950s cars look historically out of place. This is especially noticeable with the 1903 Mercedes 60HP. And this is Goodwood where history is a primarily on display.

    2. Steve, the photos show the cars not simply “on display,” but going almost full clip. I’m sure that insurance regs require modern helmets. Cloth caps would be on display in static settings.

      1. David, I am referring to full face helmets vs. open face helmets. It simply looks appropriate to use an open face helmet with an older car.

    What beautiful cars we had when aerodynamic meant simply streamlined. Then downforce was discovered, and that all went to hell.

  5. Note: the Ex-Rob Walker Team, Goodwood Tourist Trophy-winning Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Competizione now has bumpers and a radio aerial!
    Is the Jaguar XJR 13 a replica, or has the original been taken out of the museum?

  6. thank you so much from one who can’t be there. 917’s, a 300 SLR, pre-war GP cars, racing legends at the wheel. I can’t even imagine attending. You would see this 53 year old become the most excited 16 year old kid!

  7. I can’t imagine a comment being made re Modern Helmets being worn in Goodwood Festival events. If I was fortunate enough to get a drive ,even though the cars are up to 100 years old I would like to wear the safest kit available & could not care less it it was not in keeping with the era.
    My safety is paramount ——-not that I would ever get to drive any of these classics.

  12. Mr. Scott’s photos are spectacular. To say I have “Goodwood envy” would be an understatement. If Mr. Scott ever needs an equipment “pack mule” to schlep his gear around Goodwood in the future then I would like to be the first to volunteer.
