The inaugural running of the Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) Classic 24 Hour Daytona was held November 12-16, 2014 at the 12-turn, 3.56-mile Daytona International Speedway road course in Daytona Beach, Florida. The event also included HSR’s Sprint Races, Endurance Series and the finale of the TransAm Series.
The response from the Classic 24 Hour Daytona 2014 historic races has been positive, with entrants and spectators alike enjoying the varied endurance race format and the obvious bump in on-track talent. In fact, more than half the field in Group A for 1960s race cars were from outside the United States, a solid endorsement that HSR may be onto something at Daytona. It’s way too soon to tell if this is a Le Mans Classic for the United States, but James Redman and the team at HSR are to be commended for a gutsy first effort. We look forward to many more.
