The last West Coast f/8 Motorsports Photography Workshop for 2013 will take place during the Legends of Motorsports McLaren 50th anniversary celebration, held June 15-16 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California. The workshop is open to all photographers wishing to get up close and personal with some of the greatest historic racing cars in the world.
The Group f/8 workshops start with an evening classroom session where professional photographers share their experience and techniques used in creating their images. The following morning the students gather at the track where instructors will take students out to different shooting locations for hands-on instruction on the techniques they learned in the classroom. Each student will receive full media credentials allowing them to go over the fence and shoot where the pro photographers shoot. Similar to the last workshop, the best shots taken over the weekend will be published in Sports Car Digest.
Previous student Victor Varela shared his workshop experiences, saying, “The f/8 Motorsports Photography Workshop was very much what I was expecting. It granted us ‘over the fence’ access to the racetrack, the race cars and the action that is usually only reserved to those photographers who are part of the motorsport media. Being on the racetrack with seasoned professionals was an educational and inspiring photographic experience that made it the hallmark of the f/8 workshop. The classroom sessions were informative and provided the tips and resources on which equipment to use and how to prepare for assignments. The guest speakers were great and I found their presentations interesting. Their information and advice was very encouraging.”
Group f/8 will follow the Laguna Seca workshop with their final 2013 session at the Sommet des Légendes on Canada’s Le Circuit Mont Tremblant, held July 11-14. Visit www.f8photoworkshops.com for more information and to sign up for the next workshop.
