The final Bonhams automobile auction in 2012 was held 3rd December at Mercedes-Benz World in Weybridge, Surrey, UK, resulting in total sales of £4.4 million.
The top result at the 2012 Bonhams Mercedes-Benz World auction went to the 1931 Invicta 4 1/2-litre S-Type Low-Chassis Tourer, which made £466,300, followed by a 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster that realised £427,100 and a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT, with 480 miles from new, that sold for £281,500.
In the automobilia section a collection of Formula 1 racing memorabilia from world champions Michael Schumacher, Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button, Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel realised £48,600, with the top-selling lot a signed Sebastian Vettel race suit from this year’s Australian Grand Prix, which made £13,750.
Two rare and historically important folios of Volkswagen ‘Beetle’ blueprints rescued from the bomb-damaged German factory and considered instrumental in reviving post-war production of the car sold for more than four times their pre-sale estimate at £13,750.
