AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix 2011 Information

Porsche 934 at Nurburgring Oldtimer Grand Prix
The Avd Oldtimer Grand Prix 2011 will be held 12–14 August at the Nürburgring race track in Germany, with approximately 600 participants and over 60,000 spectators expected for the 39th running of the historical racing event.
Monopostos, touring-cars and sports-cars as well as GTs gather on the second August weekend at the legendary Nürburgring, to let legends once again come to life. The spectrum of the twelve races and regularity tests reaches from the earliest times of Rudolf Carraciola in the 20’s up to the era of Formula-1, in which the world champions were called Niki Lauda and Keke Rosberg. Touring-cars and GTs from the early post-war era up to the super-cars of the DTM and German Motor Sport Championship remind us of the highlights of the national motor sport scene. Sports-car prototypes and Grand-Prix-1 cars allow with exciting races a look back at the international top classes.
The birthday child of the year captivates in a journey through time into the wild 60’s, the “Swinging Sixties”: the Jaguar E-Type is 50 and the owners of the British icons can look forward to duels in their own race during the Avd Oldtimer Grand Prix 2011 – the “Jaguar E-Type Challenge”. The super sports-car with the unmistakable silhouette was manufactured about 70,000 times between 1961 and 1975 and even today still manages to excite the generations. The E-type was for example voted by readers of the British “Daily Telegraph” a few years ago, to 1st place in the list of the 100 most beautiful cars of all time.

A further eye-catcher this year will be the Nürburgring Historical Paddock which is momentarily being extensively restored and set back to its original state. The characteristic, corrugated-sheet garages are the world-wide oldest which have still been preserved and were put into operation with the circuit in 1927. Enamel lamps built according to old documents as well as newly applied old colour mixtures now provide for a unique shine. The pre-war models that start and are presented during the die Avd Oldtimer Grand Prix 2011 will this time return back to their own original setting. For spectators and vintage friends, apart from the historic ones, the “new” pits on the start–finish straight are of course once again open for all and invite you to take a stroll around them or for photo-safaris. The mix of touchable motor sport and historical race spectacle is what makes the Avd Oldtimer Grand Prix 2011 so unique. A special atmosphere will also be provided for by the numerous car clubs, who will be showing off their lovingly polished classics around the Ring. The shopping-mile attracts with literature, accessories, spare-parts and equipment.
Starting on Friday, the Avd Oldtimer Grand Prix 2011 opens with a classic highlight that in the meantime itself is already a classic: the 21st AvD Historic Marathon on the North-Loop and GP circuit revives die long distance tradition of the longest and most spectacular racing circuit in the world. Highlights on Saturday and Sunday are the spectacular Formula-1 cars of the 60’s and 70’s that are accompanied by a second-to-none programme, in which vehicles from all eras and race classes change in approximate half-hour cycles. On Saturday it goes on into the evening hours when the two-seater racing cars and GTs of the 50’s and 60’s go on to the track at about 20.30 hours for the one-hour race and help spread the Le-Mans flair in to the dusk. A highlight under the numerous presentations of legendary makes of cars is this year the appearance of the Mercedes legends which will be brought directly from the works museum to the Ring.
