Mike Jiggle’s recent article on the ex-Moss Cooper Mk IV-J.A.P. (VR, July 2015) prodded a few memories about the formula. I assisted the late David Hodges on his wonderful book, A-Z of Formula Racing Cars. Entries on 500-cc makers were down to me, and I thought that would be easy. In the event, I found 157 of them.
Rules were simple: a 500-cc engine, a minimum weight of 500 pounds and the advice, “a body is desirable.”
