A 1934 Bugatti Type 51 Grand Prix will headline the Leake Dallas Fall 2014 auction, scheduled for November 21-23 at Dallas Market Hall in Texas. The Bugatti was consigned from the John Ridings Lee Collection and will be a part of Leake’s Platinum Series of cars, set to cross the auction block on Saturday, November 22nd.

Carrying chassis number 51153, the Bugatti Type 51 on offer at the Leake Dallas sale was purchased by Mr. Lee in March, 2012 from Peter Mullin of the Mullin Automotive Museum in Oxnard, California. A total of forty Type 51 Bugattis were manufactured between 1931 and 1934. Sporting its Bugatti blue exterior and a black leather interior, the Type 51 powered by its twin overhead cam supercharged straight-eight Grand Prix engine has been raced at the Monterey Motorsports Reunion.

Documentation on the Bugatti includes:

  • Fiva Identity Card which was issued to the Bugatti in April of 1998.
  • Historical vehicle identity form, which was conducted by Federation International DE Automobile.
  • Letter from David Sewell (Independent Bugatti Consultant) written to Peter Mullin on September 15, 2003 which attests to certain facts pertaining to the automobile.
  • Historical report on Bugatti Type 51 Chassis #51153 by David Sewell.
  • Report from Donald Koleman prepared February 24, 1994 denoting certain historical pieces of information about the car.
  • Report from Sandy Leith, registrar, American Bugatti Club.
  • Article written by Thor Thorson which presents an insightful profile on the car.

In addition to the Bugatti, additional highlights at the Leake Dallas Fall 2014 auction include a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS LS6, the 1978 Glenn Pray Duesenberg Dual Cowl Sport Phaeton, the last Duesenberg to receive a sequential serial number from the Auburn Cord Duesenberg factory and the trademark, licensing and manufacturing rights to the Cord Automobile.

The Leake auction at Dallas Market Hall will be held November 21-23, 2014. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for senior citizens and military personnel with an ID and $7 for children under 12. Doors open at 9am daily. The auction will start at noon on Friday, 10am on Saturday and 11am on Sunday.
