General Racing, Ltd., organizers of the Monterey Historic Automobile Races, have announced that the featured marque for the 2007 Historics will be the front-engine Indy roadster.
From 1952–1964, front-engine roadsters, such as the racecars constructed by renowned builders, Kurtis, Watson, Lesovsky and Epperly, were dominant at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. With alcohol-fueled Offenhauser motors, these slender brutes were driven by many of the most iconic names in Indianapolis history, drivers like Rodger Ward, Troy Ruttman, A.J. Foyt, Sam Hanks, Pat Flaherty and Bill Vukovich, to name just a few.
This year’s Monterey Historics, to be held August 17–19, will pay tribute to these magnificent drivers and machines, with what will surely be one of the largest gatherings of this special type of racecar, ever assembled.
