Maserati 300S

The modern era in motor racing began shortly after the end of WWII, when there was a huge leap in technological development and a serious shift toward racing becoming a professional sport. Ever since that time, now 50 years ago, enthusiasts and racers have argued nonstop about the best Grand Prix car, the best sports car, the best production car….the best sports racer. With the benefit of considerable hindsight, perhaps two cars have stood out as the key rivals for the title of best sports racing car… the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa and the Maserati 300S.

I was very fortunate to have had an opportunity to do some hard driving in a Testa Rossa not that long ago; so when not one, but two Maserati 300S examples began to force their attention, I knew I would have the rare chance to enter the debate myself.
