As explored in this month’s “Racecar Profile,” the Sunbeam Alpine was developed by the Rootes Group as a way of creating a more “sporty” two-seater version of the successful Sunbeam Rapier. With the first Series I versions appearing on the scene in October 1959, the Sunbeam Alpine evolved through a total of five series, or iterations, over the next 10 years resulting in a total of 69,251 examples being built.
This month’s Web site is devoted to the Alpine specifically, but also includes sections on other Rootes cars including the Alpine’s bigger brother, the Tiger. Some of the features of this site include: A thorough history of the design and production of the Alpine; specifications and technical information for all 5 series, including paint codes; a listing of both factory literature, as well as books and magazine articles on the Alpine; a buyer’s guide; photo galleries; Rootes service bulletins; a registration form for the International Registry of Sunbeam Alpines; Alpine-related links; and a vast database of postings to the Alpine mailing list.
