In Praise of the ’80s

In 2007 I attended the Press Day prior to the Goodwood Festival of Speed. You can be a passenger in a drive up the hill, but there was the new rally stage, designed by Hannu Mikkola, which was a proper forest stage. I staked my place, so I had first pick of any of the 20 driver/car combinations.

Later in the day I challenged Andy Marriott as to which driver I had sat with. He looked at me, pondered, and said, “Russell Brookes in the Opel Manta,” and he was on the button.
