1958 Jaguar 3.4 Saloon

It has had an impressive competition career in anyone’s language. In simple number of wins it’s up there with some of the greatest racing cars of all time. Plus, like so many other old racing cars, it was close to oblivion when it came upon its use-by date but, thanks to the gathering interest in historic motor sport and one individual in particular, the “Grey Pussy” survives and continues to thrive.

It’s probably in our psyche, but when Australians view something or someone with affection we like to give it a nickname or name of affection. It goes for people as it does for objects, so our most famous cricketeer, the late Sir Donald Bradman, was—and still is—known to generations as “The Don.” Then, when well-known Australian motoring journalist David McKay imported a new Jaguar 3.4-liter Saloon back in mid-1958 and met with immediate competition success, it was soon given the name of the “Grey Pussy.”
