• Auctions America’s flagship Auburn Fall was held Labor Day weekend with over 81,500 enthusiasts descending on Indiana’s historic Auburn Auction Park to witness more than $25.9 million vehicles change hands. Top lot of the sale was a 1935 Duesenberg Model SJ Dual Cowl Phaeton, which sold for $1,265,000.
• Diane Fitzgerald has been named national director of the Hagerty Education Program at America’s Car Museum (ACM), which awards scholarships and grants to prepare young adults for careers in automotive preservation and restoration. Fitzgerald brings more than 30 years of experience in strategic planning, education, fundraising and marketing to her new position. Most recently, she served as national “Club Auto” director at ACM, where she was responsible for implementing new programs and events to increase membership. In 2006, Fitzgerald helped conceptualize Club Auto, which now consists of 140 members, as well as collector car clubhouses in Tacoma and Kirkland, Washington and Lakewood, Colorado.
• The 2014 Winter Park Concours has announced that automotive authority Ed Gilbertson will be joining this year’s show as Grand Marshal. Celebrating its 13th year, The Winter Park Concours features a full weekend (Nov 14-16, 2014) of activities including a Friday evening AeroPort Reception, a Saturday Tour d’ Elegance and a Sunday Concours d’ Elegance on the plush fairways of the pristine Winter Park Country Club. Gilbertson is currently Chief Judge Emeritus for Pebble Beach and is a Member of the Pebble Beach Selection Committee. • The Auburn Auction, held over Labor Day weekend, by Worldwide Auctioneers saw a 1934 Packard Twelve 1108 Convertible Sedan with a Dietrich-designed interior sell for $1,350,000, while a 1938 Talbot-Lago T-23 Sport Cabriolet, with a Figoni & Falaschi-designed body and a gorgeous interior fetch $660,000.
