To survive the full race distance through the rough streets of Long Beach, Redman relied on his endurance racing experience to save his car and somehow bring it home. Boraxo’s one-race sponsorship was extended for the rest of ’75 and all of ’76 because of Brian’s victory in this first LBGP.

When last we left Brian Redman back in the August issue, he’d just returned from his first attempt to escape motor sport, but had suffered serious burns from a crash on the Targa Florio. Once healed, circumstances turned his attentions toward American racing and he set about the resumption of his career in the USA.
You originally came into the U.S. Formula 5000 series in one of Derek Bennett’s Chevrons, but soon switched to a Lola, can you discuss that?
