The Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance 2013 was held Sunday, November 3rd at the Port Royal Golf Club on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. More than 500 automobiles participated in the 12th annual Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival and Concours d’Elegance, which moved in 2013 from the traditional Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn to a golf resort on the island.

Noted endurance racer Hurley Haywood served as the Honorary Chairman and participated at events in both Savannah and Hilton Head Island. Collectors Sam Mann of Englewood, New Jersey and Jim Schmidt of Ocala, Florida were recognized as the 2013 Pinnacle Award Recipient and the Honored Collector Award Recipient respectively.

Paul Doerring, the Festival’s Chairman Emeritus, said, “This year’s event filled up in record time. With the notoriety of the event growing year after year and our new venue, the Port Royal Golf Club, we had a higher quality show field. This year’s top honors are a tribute to the growth of the event. We are delighted to add them to the Hilton Head Island history book.”

Carolyn Vanagel, the Festival’s President, commented, “This has been a landmark year for our festival. The event continues to grow each and every year, and 2013 was no exception. The crowds were enthusiastic and enjoyed the wide variety of offerings – presentations, guided walking tours and parades of rare cars. We could not be happier with this year’s turnout.”

The top honor at Sunday’s Concours d’Elegance, ‘Best of Show,’ was awarded to a 1929 Stutz Supercharged Coupe owned by Richard and Irina Mitchell of Montgomery, Texas. This car is the only example of its kind still in existence. Most Outstanding Car, Pre-1948 went to Bud Frazier’s 1934 Chrysler Airflow CY, Most Outstanding Car, Post-1948 was awarded to a 1964 Shelby Cobra owned by Ron Finger and attendees selected Bill and Sarah Richey’s police-equipped 1933 MG L1 as the ‘People’s Choice’ winner.
