Northern California’s Classic and Sports Racing Group hosted its 3rd Annual David Love Memorial race meeting at Sonoma Raceway last weekend, with more than 250 vintage racecars tackling the challenging circuit. The large turnout induced CSRG to expand its customary eight run groups to 10 for the weekend
Some 35 Triumphs turned out to contest the Kastner Cup, with namesake Kas Kastner himself much in evidence both in the paddock and on the grid. The group’s feature race was won, appropriately enough, by Tony Garmey in the one-off Pete Brock-designed, Kastner-built Triumph TR250K (above), besting runner up Tom Kreger (1969 Triumph TR6) by seven seconds, with Jerry Barker (Triumph Spitfire) taking 3rd.
The winners in the various race groups were:
Race Group 1 – Alec Hugo – 1962 Porsche 356B
Race Group 2 – Scott Brown – 1966 MG BGT
Race Group 3 – Paul Quackenbush – 1963 Lotus S7
Race Group 4 – Tom Tuttle – 1961 Huffaker Genie
Race Group 5 – Art Hebert – 1963 Lola Mk5A
Race Group 6 – Tim Monahan – 1969 Brabham BT29
Race Group 7 – Chris Farrell – 1982 March 821-Cosworth
Race Group 8 – Mike Thurlow – 1976 Chevrolet Corvette
Race Group 9 (Guest Group) – Edward Nigro – 1960 Lola Mark 1
Race Group 10 (Kastner Cup) – Tony Garmey – 1968 Triumph TR250K
