Twenty-eight MGs took part in this year’s Collier Cup race for MGs at September’s SVRA Zippo U.S. Vintage Grand Prix held at Watkins Glen, New York. This year’s event marked the 48th anniversary of the Collier Cup and saw a strong turnout of MG faithful including two factory Sebring MGAs. On the track, overall victory in the Collier Cup race went to Jerry Richards in his MGB-GT, followed by Steve Plater in his MGC, and then Mike Kusch in an MGB. Elsewhere in the race, George Shafer, piloting his well-prepared MG TD, was the top finishing ‘T’ series MG, and was awarded the “T-Cup” trophy for ‘T’ series MGs.
However, the recipient of the coveted Collier Cup itself is always chosen by the MG racers themselves; and this year the cup was awarded to Mark Palmer in his red MGA, who also became the first repeat of this prestigious award.
