Lamborghini Miura at La Dolce VitaLa Dolce Vita was held Friday, August 14, 2009 during Monterey Week at the Bayonet Black Horse Golf Course in Monterey, California.

Enthusiasts Kerry McMullen and Jerry Kaye founded La Dolce Vita as an alternative to Concorso Italiano, but only after many participants and fans came to the belief that Concorso had lost its way. Thus McMullen and Kaye created La Dolce Vita as a way to have an Italian car show that would “get back to our roots.” A key cog to their strategy was hosting the event at the Black Horse Golf Course, site of many successful car events.

As luck would have it, Concorso decided around the same time to get back to their roots, with the end result being two Italian-focused car events on the same day during Monterey Week, both on golf courses. (Read Concorso reports and photos).

La Dolce Vita, being the new guy on the crowded Monterey block, then changed things up a bit by expanding its original Italian focus to include other European marques. Fortunately for fans, however, they also decided to focus on quality entrants over quantity, resulting in an interesting field of cars and the superb Black Horse Golf Course backdrop.

Where does that leave La Dolce Vita going forward? Time will tell, but we hope that there is a place during Monterey Week for another quality-driven European event. With Black Horse Golf Course as the setting and a quality team at the helm, La Dolce Vita certainly has a very strong infrastructure in place for a strong event in the years to come.
