The 2009 Concorso Italiano was held Friday, August 14th at the Laguna Seca Golf Ranch in Monterey California.
Concorso Italiano’s place in the Monterey Week rotation was in much doubt after last year’s change of venues to the inhospitable Marina Municipal Airport. While participants and spectators alike vowed to never return to Concorso, the new organizers – led by Tom McDowell – worked hard to restore the tradition of prior years, starting with choosing the Laguna Seca Golf Ranch to host the 24th annual event – Laguna Seca Golf Ranch.
We are happy to report that Concorso’s hard work paid off, as the event was a success and fans welcomed it back into the Monterey Week fold. The event was well attended by both cars and people, showing that a proper setting can make all the difference as to whether an event succeeds or withers away.
Concorso Italiano honored several cars, including the Alfa Romeo BAT cars, Ferrari 288 GTO and Iso. There were also strong gatherings of Ferrari, Lamborghini, De Tomaso, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Lancia, among others. In addition to the cars, food and wine, Jay Leno was honored with the “La Bella Macchina” award, which signifies outstanding contributions and a passion for the automotive hobby.
