The Wellborn Muscle Car Museum Collection will headline the Mecum Kissimmee 2015 auction, scheduled for January 16-25 in Kissimmee, Florida. Nearly half of Tim Wellborn’s muscle car collection will cross the block in Kissimmee, a featured offering among the approximately 3,000 cars at the world’s largest collector car auction.

Tim Wellborn is recognized as one of the top muscle car and Mopar collectors, and while Hemi-powered Mopars are a predominant theme, the collection offers many other examples including a 1970 Boss 429 Mustang that is unrestored with 4,770 miles, an unrestored Black-on-Black 1970 LS6 Chevelle and a rare Stage 1 Buick GSX. Over the years, Tim Wellborn has often referred to his cars simply as “unobtainium.” Now with new plans to begin rotating displays at the Wellborn Musclecar Museum in Alexander City, Alabama, this opportunity to obtain the unobtainable will become a reality at Mecum in Kissimmee, January 2015.

Mecum President Dana Mecum said, “We’ve undoubtedly had some truly amazing collections cross our block through the years, but this group probably tops all of them. Tim Wellborn will offer 25 cars from his coveted collection at Kissimmee 2015. As the largest seller of muscle cars in the world, Mecum Auctions was a natural choice for Tim to sell his cars with, but nonetheless, we’re honored to have the opportunity to work with him and his stunning group of cars. Kissimmee will bring with it a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for buyers looking to acquire these extremely rare and highly sought-after muscle cars.”

The Wellborn Musclecar Museum is located in Alexander City, Alabama. It was opened by collector Tim Wellborn in January 2010 and boasts the world’s largest collection of Dodge Chargers as well as a host of other Mopar legends and classic muscle cars.

Wellborn’s extensive group of 1971 Dodge Hemi Chargers will lead the lineup in Kissimmee, which also includes a variety of muscle cars of the Golden Era with a focus on quality and distinctiveness. Some of the cars have been owned by the Wellborns for 20 or more years.

“The cars that will be offered in Kissimmee really are the best of collection,” Wellborn explained. “I’ve really always considered myself just the caretaker of these cars, and now it’s time to let someone else take on that role. I am familiar with Mecum’s customers, and I trust that they will appreciate these cars and care for them the way they deserve. It’s tough to let go, but I’m confident in Mecum Auctions and its followers, and it’s just time.”

Wellborn also commented on the future of the museum, “The goal here is really to make room to continue rotating the museum inventory. Space is limited, so we can’t just keep adding to the current group of cars, and we want to keep the muscle car displays fresh – and always the best of the best. This is actually the start of a new era for the Wellborn Musclecar Museum.”
