We spotted the Playboy at a “Cruisin’ For a Cure” meet at the Los Angeles Fairgrounds a few weeks before our test drive. We had spent that morning listening to the rumbling parade of chromed and polished Chevy Small-block-powered Tupperware deuce coupes rolling by when we went into one of the show buildings to get out of the sun. There was the usual assortment of custom ‘Vettes, old gasser coupes painted lemon yellow, and ’50s lead sleds; but then off in the far corner was something magnificent. This was what we had come hoping to see.
