Bobby Unser will be the honored guest at the Road Racing Drivers Club annual Long Beach banquet on April 16. Unser is, of course, a three-time Indy 500 winner and a two time Indycar National Champion, having his likeness fitted to the Borg-Warner Trophy after winning at Indy in 1968, 1975 and 1981, and claiming the points championship in 1968 and 1974. His 35 Indycar wins rank him 5th all-time, and his record 10 overall wins (13 total) at Colorado’s Pikes Peak Hillclimb make him the true King of the Mountain. He was also IROC champion in 1975, and the solitary Fast Masters titlist in 1993.
After retiring from the cockpit, Unser took his natural loquaciousness into the broadcast booth where he became an excellent expert analyst for ABC Sports, providing color commentary alongside Paul Page and Sam Posey.
