The Peter Auto season of historic car races kicks off April 6-8 on the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit in Montmélo, with more than 200 racing cars — including some exceptional machines — expected at the Spanish track. The event has been called Espíritu de Montjuïc as an homage to the park of the same name in Barcelona that once hosted the Spanish Grand Prix.
The evocation of the Montjuich name brings to mind the eponymous team, a renowned local privateer outfit, which finished second in the 1971 Tour de France Automobile with its striking Ferrari 512 S. This prototype, with its readily recognizable yellow livery, will be racing in the CER 1 grid!
Among other cars that the spectators should look forward to seeing are: the Maserati 300 S, the Ferrari Breadvan and 250 GTO, the Ford GT40, the Porsche 917, the Matra MS 650, the Lotus 69, the Ligier JS2, the Jaguar XJR12, the Nissan R90 CK and a Peugeot 905.
Quality will be one of the outstanding features of this event, with quantity not lacking either, a comment particularly applicable to Sixties Endurance in which more than 61 cars — including Alfa Romeos, Austin Healeys, Chevrolets, Fords, Jaguars, Lotuses, MGs, Morgans, Porsches, Shelbys, Triumphs and TVRs — will battle it out on the track.
Friday and Saturday morning are scheduled for practice sessions and qualifying, with the racing kicking off after lunch on Saturday.
