• An impromptu “reunion” of a trio of American road race specials took place at the second running of the Chateau Impney Hillclimb in the United Kingdom. The three cars all contested the old Pebble Beach Road Races of the 1950s in California, so having them all together in one place some 60 years later, was remarkable. The three cars were: Rob Manson’s 1952 Streets Manning Special with its Mercury Flathead V8 engine; Ernie Nagamatsu’s 1959 Old Yeller II with Buick V8 big block “Nailhead;” and Simon Taylor’s 1950 HWM Stovebolt Special with its small-block Chevrolet V8.
• The Formula Junior Historics North America will hold its 2016 National Race at the Elkhart Lake’s Fall Vintage Festival at Road America on September 16-18. Formula Junior is the featured marque of the event and a large field of cars is expected to take part.
• Ford Mustang enthusiasts from around the world are expected to attend the 40th Anniversary celebration of the Mustang Club of America at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on the weekend of September 1–4. The event will feature an exciting lineup of performance cars and track events, as well as a Night at the Museum, the world’s longest Mustang Parade, Saturday night’s MCA Banquet and more.
• A recent USA Today poll has named Philadelphia’s Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum as its Most Popular car museum and the second-most-popular among all types of transportation museums. The five-acre Museum facility, located near the Philadelphia International Airport, offers an underlying inspirational theme—the spirit of competition—as demonstrated by the chronological display of the world’s most important racecars and their evolution.
