On April 25th, the motorsports world was rocked by another recent tragedy, when F1 and sports car veteran Michele Alboreto was tragically killed while testing his Audi R8 sports prototype at the newly constructed Lausitzring in Germany.
Alboreto’s long list of racing accomplishments included winning the 1980 F3 Championship and the 1997 24-Hours of Le Mans. But, Alboreto will probably be best remembered for his Formula One career, which spanned from 1981 to 1994. Of his 194 Grand Prix starts, Alboreto won five times (three with Ferrari), finished second nine times, third nine times and had two poles.
