Twenty-eight years ago, Mecum Auctions held its very first collector car sale at the Rockford (Ill.) Airport, and on the weekend of October 6-8 the company will return to those Chicagoland roots with the area’s only annual collector car auction. Mecum Chicago 2016 at the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center in Schaumburg, Illinois, will feature some 1,000 vehicles, headlined by American muscle cars, classics, Corvettes, hot rods, Resto Mods and more.
Signature cars for this year’s event include: an award-winning 1957 Ford Thunderbird E-Code (above, photo courtesy of Mecum Auctions); a 1969 Chevrolet COPO Chevelle that was one of only 323 produced that year; a 1970 Dodge Hemi Challenger R/T with a pistol-grip 4-speed and a Chicago sports fan’s dream in the form of an ex-Scottie Pippen 1988 Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet finished in Chicago Bulls red and black.
The Convention Center’s doors open daily at 8 a.m., with the auction beginning with Road Art at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, and at 8:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Cars will begin crossing the block at 1 p.m. on Thursday and at 10 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. For complete information, please visit www.Mecum.com.
