Dear Editor,
In the article about Vittorio Jano, in your June issue, Robert Newman stated that the 1945 assassination of Alfa Romeo Managing Director Ugo Gobbato was the act of a disgruntled former employee. However, in Brock Yates’ 1990 biography of Enzo Ferrari he wrote that that was only one possibility, as the assassin was never even identified, let alone apprehended. Mr. Yates said it is also possible that the assassination could have been political due to Gobbato’s close ties to Mussolini. I would be interested to know what information Mr. Newman has access to that Mr. Yates did not.
