Recently, the Kansas City, Missouri, City Council approved plans for the construction of the KCI Motorsports Park on 300 acres just west of Kansas City International Airport, to be leased to the developers for 30 years by the City of Kansas City’s Aviation Department. Plans call for an investment of $25 million in the subsidy-free development.
KCI Motorsports Park promises car enthusiasts a state-of-the-art venue to pursue the international obsession for motorsports. Membership-based, KCI Motorsports will operate similar to golf-oriented country clubs or social membership groups. Phase One construction is anticipated to start in May 2007 and complete in spring 2008 and includes the north track, paddock, club house, a kart track, garage units, public entrance facility (including classrooms), a car set-up shop to be operated by a track pro, and team unit buildings. Phase Two, which includes the south track, a possible second kart track and additional team units and paddock garages, is anticipated to start in March 2008 although, depending on demand, both phases could be built simultaneously.
Initially, KCI Motorsports is attracting an initial, limited number of founding-level members with top-tier investment benefits that require no annual dues. A large number of general membership packages with an initial membership fee and annual dues are offered starting as low as the karting membership at $5,000 and ranging up to elite individual membership of $35,000 and a corporate membership of $75,000. Some of the features of this new venue will include: a 3.7-mile, full, road-course track that divides into two separate tracks of 1.7 (north track) and 2 miles (south track); a championship standard kart track of .73 mile; a member clubhouse; a driving school; private garages and maintenance facilities.
