For the second year, the Historic Grand Prix (HGP) organization took to the track as a support event for the 2001 United States Grand Prix at Indianapolis.
This year, 26 three-liter Grand Prix cars built between 1967 and 1980 took to the track for two days of high-speed demonstration runs. Among the many significant cars taking part were the ex-Gurney Eagle TG104 (see article below), driven by Phil Reilly, the ex-Mark Donohue Penske PC1, driven by Donohue’s son Mark, as well as the Tyrrell 002, driven by John Delane which Francois Cevert drove to victory in the United States Grand Prix at Watkins Glen in 1971.
