The famed Ford GT40 appears to be one of the most talked about and sought-after cars in the automotive world these days, yet ironically, probably not the “GT40” that you might be thinking of.
Undoubtedly, the GT40 that you would conjure in your mind is the GT40, Ford’s iconic endurance racing car from the 1960s. As most of us know all too well, early in the ’60s, Ford was positioning itself to acquire Ferrari. Ferrari was struggling financially and negotiations had gotten pretty far along until Enzo was made aware that he would no longer have complete autonomy over his beloved racing department. As a result, Enzo quixotically called off the deal, sending Henry Ford II into a rage. The result was Ford’s commitment to winning at Le Mans, in no small part, as a way of getting back at Ferrari.
