Gooding & Company continued to set the auction world on fire with eleven world records set at its Amelia Island Auction on March 10, 2012. The company doubled its results from 2010 and established a record $36 million in sales with a 91 percent sell-through. Led by the Porsche racing cars from the Drendel Family Collection, the top selling lot of the weekend was the 1973 Porsche 917/30 Can-Am Spyder which sold for $4.4 million and is now the most valuable Porsche ever sold at auction in the world.
The auction featured lively bidding wars and a surprise stage appearance by racer Derek Bell who introduced his 1984 Porsche 962 from the 24 Hours of Daytona. The 17 cars comprising the Drendel Family Collection amassed $17.7 million while other highlights included a 1955 Porsche 550/1500 RS Spyder that sold for $3.685 million, a 1951 Ferrari 212 Inter Coupe sold at $1.375 million and a 1948 Tucker 48 that sold for $1.32 million.
