Mecum Auctions has announced that it will be selling the ex-works McLaren M20-01 that was driven by Peter Revson, the defending series champion, during the 1972 Can-Am series at its Monterey sale on Saturday, August 16. The car is the only Team McLaren M20 that retains its original tub, engine and bodywork, and has a raft of Concours victories to its credit, including the “Best McLaren in Class” this year at Amelia Island.
The car was raced in subsequent seasons by David Hobbs and Derek Bell in Carling livery (1973), and Scooter Patrick in 1974 when it won the last official Can-Am race. Its engine, a 494cid, 750hp Reynolds aluminum Chevrolet V8, is one of the few remaining Reynolds engines that does not have steel cylinder liners. For complete information, please visit www.mecum.com
