A diverse field of nearly 300 vintage racecars of all types will turn up at Sonoma Raceway next weekend, September 30–October 2, for the Classic Sports Racing Group’s 13th annual Charity Challenge. Those cars will be divided into nine Race Groups, with all groups enjoying two 25-minute sessions each day, with cars from the ’30s to the ’80s ranging from Formula One and Can-Am to Production Cars, all taking part.
The weekend’s highlight, however, will be the three-lap lunchtime racecar rides that CSRG offers in return for a charitable donation of $75 to $500, depending upon the type of car. Those donations, the gate receipts and Saturday night’s raffle proceeds all go to the Sonoma Chapter of the Speedway Children’s Charities (http://sonoma.speedwaycharities.org). In the last 12 years CSRG has raised more than three-quarters of a million dollars for the charity. Students of any age and military personnel are admitted free of charge.
