• Barrett-Jackson announced that it generated more than $14.2 million in gross sales of rare, high-end collectible vehicles, exotics, customs, classics, hot rods and resto-mods, during its inaugural Hot August Nights Auction held August 8-10, 2013 at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. Overall attendance was strong with the inaugural event attracting nearly 40,000 car enthusiasts throughout the weekend. Top sales included a 2014 Shelby GT500 Convertible ($500,000), a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible ($192,000), a 1950 Jaguar XK 120 2-Door Roadster ($178,200) and a 1968 Shelby GT500 E Continuation Fastback ($165,000).
• The 13th annual Automedon Show, will be held in Paris, France on October 12-13. Spread over a 20,000-square-meter hall in Paris’s Parc des Expositions du Bourget and an equally large outdoor area, Automedon will play host to more than 2,000 classic cars and bikes. • Australia’s most historically significant car, the oldest Holden in private ownership, is to be offered for sale at auction by Theodore Bruce Auctions, Australia’s oldest auction house, on October 26, at Melbourne’s Motorclassica 2013. Holden KJ-400 is no ordinary Holden. It is a hand-shaped prototype of the car that would later be called the 48-215 and then became more commonly known as the FX Holden. The car marked the beginning of large-scale car manufacturing in Australia. • The 7th Annual Barrington Concours d’Elegance broke attendance records on Sunday, July 14, 2013, as a sea of people flooded a show field dotted with exquisite collector cars and motorcycles. More than 3,500 guests enjoyed 140 stunning vehicles at Makray Memorial Golf Club in Barrington, Illinois. A 1935 Avions Voisin Type C25 Aerodyne from the collection of the Mullin Automotive Museum in Oxnard, California, won “Best of Show–Automobile.” The Voisins were a special addition to the 7th Annual Concours and this was the first time they were seen in the Midwest. A 1950 Vincent Series C Black Shadow entered by Tim Holcroft was named “Best of Show–Motorcycle.”
• RM Auctions returns to Hershey, Pennsylvania, October 10-11, for its annual sale at the Hershey Lodge, coinciding with the AACA Eastern Regional Fall Meet. Brass Era highlights for this year’s event are led by a 1910 Pierce-Arrow 48-SS Seven-Passenger Touring, which includes single-family ownership for more than 60 years (Est. $550,000–$750,000). • A collection of thirteen Rolls-Royce and Bentley motorcars—many of which have lain dormant in a small town garage for many years—will be among the star attractions at H&H’s upcoming October 16, 2013, IWM Duxford auction. Vying for top billing are a Rolls-Royce Phantom II Continental Touring Saloon, which graced the 1933 Olympia Motor Show, and a 1960 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II Saloon that has covered just 24,000 miles from new. The former once belonged to marque authority Lawrence Dalton, while the latter was supplied new to Osmond Rivers of “Empress Line” fame. The collection also contains a 1939 Rolls-Royce Wraith Special Saloon (No Reserve) that was first owned by the then chairman of Rolls-Royce, Arthur F.
