Whether you are a lifelong fan or a recent convert, undoubtedly you have a racing touchstone, that is to say a specific track or particular race, that is especially near and dear to you. Perhaps this touchstone represents the first event you ever witnessed or maybe a special track that you have spent the most time at. This is the place where countless gedanken rennen “mind races” unfold, when you daydream of being strapped in behind the wheel. For me, my touchstone turns 40 this month and with it so does my number of years in and around the sport.
As you’ll read in this month’s interview with Long Beach Grand Prix founder Chris Pook and in the Legends Speak from Nate Jones, one of Pook’s right-hand men, the iconic Southern California street circuit celebrates its 40th iteration this year.
