America’s F1 Forebears

Dan Gurney, as American as we make ’em, was once proposed to be President, and I still think our conflicted country would have been the better for it. But Big Dan did achieve immortality as the first American to create an American F1 car. Wonderfully, he called it the Eagle, and what’s more, he won a Grand Prix in it.

That’s the wellspring of my enthusiasm over the recent announcement of a new U.S. team. They plan to make cars in America and have them driven by Americans in the world championship next year.
