Historic Sportscar Racing’s 2017 season will open the second half of its racing year with the Fall Historics at Road Atlanta in the foothills of the North Georgia Mountains, before moving to coastal Savannah for the annual Savannah Speed Classic. The schedule then visits the Daytona International Speedway for the Daytona Historics and the third running of the Classic 24 Hour presented by IMSA, before closing out at legendary Sebring International Raceway with the Sebring Historics and the Alan Jay Classic 12 Hour — Pistons and Props.
Road Atlanta’s Fall Historics on the weekend of September 14-17 will include the usual WeatherTech sprint series races, the B.R.M. Chronographes endurance series, the popular Bob Woodman Tires International American Challenge and the Global GT, as well as Classic RS Cup. Registration and technical inspection take place on the Thursday, with Friday featuring a pair of 25-minute qualifying sessions for each run group, the Woodman Challenge race and a Friday night BBQ. Saturday morning will bring final qualifying for all groups, followed by the first round of Sprint races before the weekend’s first one-hour B.R.M. Vintage/GTC Enduro Challenge is flagged away at 3:30 p.m. The second one-hour B.R.M. Vintage/GTC Enduro Challenge kicks off Sunday morning at 8:10 a.m., with the afternoon filled by the second round of Sprint races.
On the weekend of October 26-29, the Savannah Speed Classic opens this year’s 16th annual Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival on the Grand Prize of America Road Course, while the Classic 24 at Daytona will feature Grand Touring Prototypes, IMSA’s vaunted GTP cars (above, photo courtesy of HSR), on the weekend of November 8-12, before the Sebring Classic 12 Hour closes the season on the historic Central Florida airport circuit on the weekend of November 29-December 3.
