Greenwich Concours 2015 – Report and Photos

The Greenwich Concours d’Elegance 2015 was held June 4-5 at the Roger Sherman Baldwin Park in Greenwich, Connecticut. The waterfront park situated on the Greenwich Harbor once again provided an excellent setting for the more than 10,000 spectators that enjoyed the 20th annual event.

Since its founding in 1996, the two-day Greenwich Concours is actually two Concours, back-to-back. Saturday’s Concours Americana is for American makes, while Sunday’s Concours International is for imported marques. Collectively more than 250 American and foreign cars were exhibited at this year’s events.

The team of judges at the Greenwich Concours chose examples of automobile design for Best of Show on Saturday and Sunday. A 1935 Packard Model 1201 Convertible — with forged wheel covers and white-letter tires, no less — won the Best of Show American award for the Marano Collection from New Jersey, a frequent entrant at Greenwich.

Sunday’s Concours International awarded Best of Show to a 1951 Cisitalia 202C Cabriolet, a landmark design by Pinin Farina. With a body that integrated all elements into a single flowing form, the Cisitalia’s design was a major influence on the auto industry as a whole.

“I was attracted to this car by its artistic design,” said Andrew Benenson, who bought the Cisitalia seven years ago and had it restored. “It really is a piece of rolling sculpture, and even the Museum of Modern Art has one in its permanent collection.”

A couple of brief showers on Sunday did not deter the award parade, which was held a bit earlier than usual to beat the rainstorms that arrived near the show’s close. The cars stayed, showing owners’ dedication to the event.

For the 20th year, AmeriCares, headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut, was the charitable beneficiary of the Greenwich Concours. For over 30 years, AmeriCares has provided emergency medical relief and humanitarian aid around the world.

Similar to 2011 and 2013, photographer Michael DiPleco also documented the 2015 Greenwich Concours d’Elegance, offering up an excellent selection of images from the Concours International on Sunday. We split up Michael’s pictures into two galleries. The first gallery starting below features our favorite images, all displayed in the full-width view of Sports Car Digest, while the second gallery and event results can be found on the last page of the article and gives a comprehensive view of all the 290 photographs.
