More than 300 cars are expected to take to the 3.4-mile Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, this weekend as the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association holds its 3rd annual U.S. Vintage Racing National Championships. Champions will be crowned in 11 race groups, with all winners awarded a Bell Racing National Champions helmet.
Among the championships to be decided will be the Formula 5000 Association’s two 2015 titles, with Bruce Leeson (McLaren M10B ) holding a commanding lead in Class A, having outscored runner-up Mark Harmer (Surtees TS5) 174 points to 98, and Paul Zazryn (Lola T332) leading Rick Parsons (Lola T332) 150 to 104. Also on the weekend’s racing schedule will be the season finale of the SCCA’s Trans-Am series.
In addition to the racing, a “Texas-sized” car show will be held Saturday afternoon, followed by the annual SVRA Party featuring a classic Texas Barbecue dinner and fireworks display as the Marshall Tucker Band performs in the paddock. Also on the docket is Motostalgia’s Collector Car Auction on both Friday and Saturday evenings in the paddock media center. Please visit www.svra.com for further information.
