No matter what year it is, there is always a celebration of something or other. Each month through Vintage Racecar’s Time Capsule page, we are reminded of significant events that have occurred throughout the history of motor sport. However, and perhaps it’s just me, I thought that 2007 had more than its fair share of historic events.
Last year was one when, in many ways, we looked back half a century to celebrate the golden anniversary of so many significant events. How we looked at the heavens was changed forever when, on October 4, 1957, Russia launched the first man-made artificial satellite, Sputnik 1. It was also the same year when agreement was first reached to form the European Economic Community and, heaven forbid, Elvis was drafted, resulting in some of the worst films ever produced!
