The Silverstone Auctions Race Retro 2015 sale was staged 21-22 February at Stoneleigh Park near Coventry, UK, resulting in £3.62 million in total sales and a 78 percent sell-through rate. The first Silverstone Auctions event of 2015 achieved four record prices.

Classic Ferraris remain in high demand, with two cars by the marque breaking world records at the Silverstone Race Retro 2015 auction.A low-mileage 1991 Ferrari Testarossa with an accompanying five-piece Ferrari luggage set sold for a premium inclusive total of £202,500, £72,500 over its low estimate and a new record price. A 1999 Ferrari 456M, with 400 miles on the clock and one previous owner, was bought for a record-breaking £118,125.

Also attracting interest at Silverstone’s Race Retro 2015 sale was the 1991 Alfa Romeo SZ. The model had 808 km on its odometer and fetched a record price of £84,938; more than £30,000 over its low estimate.

A 1973 Porsche 911 2.4S Targa with an extensive history file sold for £114,750, more than £20,000 over of its low estimate of £90,000, a 1970 Porsche 911 2.2S Coupe brought £132,750 and a 2011 Porsche 997 GT3 RS 3.8 fetched £114,750.

Nick Whale, Managing Director of Silverstone Auctions, said, “This is another great set of results for our vendors and gives a promising and exciting outlook for the year ahead. I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who attended the sale and I look forward to welcoming you at our next auction which will be held at The Practical Classics Restoration Show in March.”

One of the sale’s most unique lots was a 1955 Volkswagen Type 2 Samba Microbus which fetched £67,500. The first Type 2 Samba imported into the UK, the Samba had been restored and is thought to be the only surviving example of the few Wolfsburg-built examples imported into the UK.

A number of motorcycles were also presented, with a 1965 Triumph ‘Thruxton’ Bonneville breaking the fourth record of the sale, reaching £21,938.

A total of 13 race cars were sold at the Silverstone Auctions Race Retro 2015 sale, with one of the most fascinating models offered being a 2010 Aston Martin Vantage GT2 Chassis 007. Sold for an £105,750, the model was the Le Mans support race winner, entered by Villois Racing for drivers Filippi and Lavio. It also competed in six rounds of the GT Open series, with Guerrrero winning the Pro-Am race at Brands Hatch.

Don’t like pop-up headlights on any car. In North America we have to have headlights on during daytime running. Ferrari, as in some other makes have not always done the right thing.

When the hell did a testa rossa become worth 202,000 pounds? What a joke?

You could spend a million on the Lambo C or half million on a Dino or hundred fifty on a Healey or quarter million on the XKE so is the Testarossa a good deal or what?

The Testarossa is worth every penny as compared to the prices on Porsche and so many other cars at auction in today’s market. Drive a Testarossa it speaks for it’s self.
