69 Pit Stop 2CV Watch
Unusual by today’s standards, the speedometer of the early 2CV [See this month’s “Driven”] was mounted to the left of the steering wheel. What’s even more unusual is that it also drove the windshield wiper. The watch face of this new speedometer watch from 69 Pit Stop is based on the design of the OS gauge that was one of the various speedometer versions the 2CV came off the assembly line with. OS standing for the German engineer Otto Schulze, who patented a speedometer based on the principles of eddy currents, as early as 1902.
The multi-colored watch face captures the legendary design of the speedometer of the 1956 2CV with a scale from 0 to 100 km/h and red shift point indicators. The watch features a Japanese quartz movement, large, stainless-steel watch case (43 millimeters) and is rounded off with a leather watchband with stainless-steel clasp.
