The painting pays tribute to Smokey Yunick, and the last ever Daytona Beach Race (Oceanside Speedway) on February 3rd, 1958. Paul Goldsmith drove Smokey’s ’58 Pontiac from pole position, to win by 5 car lengths from Curtis Turner, with Jack Smith and Joe Weatherley coming home 3rd and 4th, respectively.
