Salon Privé II Salutes Ferrari

Avatar photoVR Staff

Claiming a place in classic car history, Salon Privé became the first event of its kind to run two completely separate Concours celebrations within the same event. Taking place on Saturday September 2, two days after the long-standing Chubb Insurance Concours d’Elégance (see separate story), the inaugural Concours Masters event paid tribute to Ferrari’s 70th year.

With more than 50 of Maranello’s finest lining up on the prestigious lawns of Blenheim Palace, the first Concours Masters was a brand-new take on the traditional Concours, designed to add an exciting dimension to the Salon Privé celebrations. Each year the “Masters” will focus on the anniversary of a historic automotive marque or a particular coachbuilder.

A more relaxed version of a traditional judged Concours, the event’s overall Owner’s Choice Award was won by the ex-Walt Disney 1956 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta “Tour de France” by Carrozzeria Scaglietti. The very first of the second series 14-louver design, it was featured in the motion picture The Love Bug, and won the hearts of the judges with its full Ferrari Classiche certification and simply stunning period-correct condition.

Running a very close 2nd was a 1953 Ferrari 250 Inter-Europa Coupe by Vignale. One of four bodied by Vignale and one of just 22 first-series 250 Europas, it’s one of the rarest road-going ’50s Ferraris ever. Beyond receiving its runner-up Owner’s Choice Award, this special Ferrari also took home the Best Interior Pre-1970 Award and a trophy for Outstanding Coachwork. The overall and class-wining cars are listed below:
