Russo and Steele Scottsdale 2013 – Auction Preview

The Russo and Steele Scottsdale Auction 2013 will be held January 16-20 in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The 13th annual Arizona sale will see in excess of 600 automobiles cross the auction block over five days, headlined by the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Coupe, 1963 Pontiac Catalina “Swiss Cheese” Super Duty Coupe, 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429, 1969 Yenko Chevrolet Camaro, 1973 BMW 3.0 CSL “Batmobile”, 1970 Plymouth Hemi ‘Cuda and 1969 Shelby GT500 Convertible 428 Cobra Jet, among others.

In 2012, Russo and Steele offered 655 cars, with 414 finding new owners, reflecting a 63% sell-through rate. The total sales volume was $19,273,145 and the average price per car sold was $46,553. Top sale went to the 1968 Chevrolet L-88 Corvette Roadster that sold for $687,500.00, followed by the 1965 Shelby GT 350 at $467,500.00 and the 1953 Chevrolet Corvette that brought $467,500.00.

The 2013 “Sports and Muscle” auction marks the return of the many improvements Russo and Steele made to its Scottsdale auction venue, including additional space for consignments, asphalt upgrades and the Losberger main auction structure that holds the main auction block, vehicle staging, vendors and sponsors.

This year’s sale will be held at Russo and Steele’s traditional site just east of North Scottsdale Road and the North Loop 101 Freeway in Scottsdale, Arizona. General admission, $20; Bidder registration, $150; VIP guest, $75. Additional bidder’s guests, $50 each.

1963 Pontiac Catalina Super Duty Coupe – One of the 14 original “Swiss Cheese” lightweights built by Pontiac and one of the 12 originally finished in Frost Silver. After being tested by Pontiac stalwart Arnie ‘The Farmer’ Beswick, whom already had received his own car, this particular “Swiss Cheese” Catalina was instead delivered new to Wilmington, Delaware’s Union Park Pontiac.
1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda
1970 Plymouth Hemi ‘Cuda – 4-speed, original, unmodified and unrestored example with just 49,380 miles and three owners from new.

1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 – As offered, KK 1431 is a rotisserie-restored, matching numbers car retaining the factory-original S engine, all of its ‘Boss 9’ components, and the original body tag affixed to the radiator support. Everything works correctly and the car shows only 51,140 actual miles. Accompanied by restoration photos, the owner’s manual and miscellaneous Boss 429 marketing and advertising literature, it’s documented with the original build sheet, copies of Kar Kraft and Ford invoices and a list of all owners to verify its authenticity and history.
