RM Auctions Concorso Villa d’Este 2011 – Auction Preview

The inaugural RM Auctions Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este auction will be held 21 May, 2011 on the banks of Lake Como at the Spazio Villa Erba in Cernobbio, Italy.

RM Auctions, in partnership with BMW Group Classic and Grandhotel Villa d’Este, is the official auction house of the vaunted Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. RM’s sale at the Villa d’Este will be a biennial event, alternating with the company’s Monaco sale, which is held during the same weekend as the Grand Prix Historique de Monaco and will next return in 2012.

RM Auctions assembled a mere 32 automobiles for the single-day Villa d’Este auction, with 10 automobiles estimated to fetch over €1 million euro. In an auction where all of the entrants are prominent, the sale is headlined by the 1953 Ferrari 250 MM Pinin Farina Berlinetta; 1955 Ferrari 375 MM Berlinetta; 1938 Talbot-Lago T150C-SS Teardrop Coupe; 1965 Ford GT Works Prototype Roadster; 1937 Bugatti Type 57 SC Atalante; 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540K Cabriolet A; 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spyder and 1957 Ferrari 500 TRC Spider.

RM Auctions also presents six extraordinary prototypes from the official collection of Bertone S.p.A that have never been offered for public sale, highlighted by the 1970 Lancia Stratos HF Zero, 1967 Lamborghini Marzal and 1963 Chevrolet Testudo.

Ferrari 375 MM Berlinetta
1955 Ferrari 375 MM Berlinetta – Estimate €3.200.000 – €4.200.000. Chassis 0490 AM features coachwork by Pinin Farina; last 375 MM built and reportedly the last Ferrari to carry the ‘Mille Miglia’ designation; displayed at 1955 Turin Motor Show; recipient of restoration by Wayne Obry’s Motion Products Inc, who returned the car to its Turin Motor Show specifications; displayed at Pebble Beach Concours in 2004 where it was judged ‘Best in Class’, as well as Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in 2005.

1965 Ford GT Works Prototype Roadster, GT/111
1965 Ford GT Works Prototype Roadster – Estimate €2.400.000 – €2.900.000. Chassis number GT/111 is one of only five prototype open GT Roadsters built by Ford Advanced Vehicle Operations in the UK during early 1965, of which just four survive; competed at Le Mans trials and Targa Florio in period; its whereabouts remained largely unknown for forty years until chassis was rediscovered in 2006; following a restoration GT/111 reappeared at the 2007 Goodwood Revival.
