Porsche Featured at Legends of Motorsports Watkins Glen

Porsche has been named official marque for the inaugural Legends of Motorsports race weekend at Watkins Glen International. The event at the historic Watkins Glen, New York road course is slated for June 11-13, 2010.

For more than 50 years Porsche cars have re-written racing’s record books in the form of manufacturer, team and driver championships and more than 28,000 race wins, many recorded at historic Watkins Glen International. Beyond the simple pursuit of racing glory, Porsche has steadfastly used its motorsport programs to develop its production vehicles.

“Throughout the world and certainly in America, people continue an ongoing and passionate love affair with Porsche,” stated Bobby Rahal, partner, Historic Motorsports Productions (HMP), which owns and promotes the Legends of Motorsports series. “Through the years Porsche has crafted many memorable race cars, all typically fast, stylish and engineered to be amazingly reliable,” the 1986 Indianapolis 500 winner continued. “Guests at the Legends of Motorsports event at Watkins Glen International will see multiple generations of exquisite Porsche road cars and race cars up-close and on the race track.”

A full roster of Legends of Motorsports classes will compete at Watkins Glen International including the following categories and run groups:

— 2-Liter Sports Cars
— Can-Am/USRRC
— Classic Monoposto
— Formula 5000
— Formula Libre

— IMSA GT/World Championship of Makes Enduro

Peter Stoneberg, partner and CEO of HMP stated, “Having the personal pleasure of regularly driving Porsche cars on both the highway and race track, I can attest that this is an automotive marque truly worthy of celebration. Between the Porsche car clubs who will be well-represented, and the dozens of anticipated Porsche race cars on hand, Watkins Glen International will be a magical place for those who appreciate sports cars with a proud heritage.”
