Porsche Club GB has announced that its “Classics at the Castle” event, Europe’s largest classic Porsche gathering, will return September 3 for its 2017 outing at Hedingham Castle in Halstead, Essex.
An integral part of the event is the display of pre-1974 (KG-badged) Porsches, which has been at the heart of the show for more than a decade and is always a crowd pleaser. This year, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 911S, the Castle driveway will feature a static display of 50 examples, set out in chronological order. It promises to be one of the most complete lineups of the 911S, showcasing all the models in the “S” production spectrum, including those built in the Porsche AG period until the S designation was deleted. Among the notable vehicles confirmed to attend are two rare right-hand-drive S models from 1967 — 2.2-liter “S” and “S” Sport — as well as the ex Vic Elford 2.4-liter car.
Aside from the large displays of classic and modern Porsches, there will also be an abundance of trade stands and food vendors, plus the opportunity to explore the magnificent Castle and grounds. Built circa 1140, Hedingham Castle has welcomed many royal visitors including King Henry VII, King Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I. The magnificent Banqueting Hall and Minstrel’s Gallery will be open to visitors, and the upper windows provide phenomenal aerial views of the event and surrounding countryside.
The gates open at 10 a.m., and the event finishes at 4 p.m. Tickets are available in advance only as there will be no ticketing at the gate. Tickets for Porsche Club GB members are £20 per car (Membership number required), while non-members will pay £25 per car. Additional passengers cost £5 each with a maximum of three per transaction.
